Vol 3: OCEAN Exhibition at JHub Art Space: Raising Youth Awareness About the Role of the Ocean Through Art

June 29, 2024

JHub Art Space in Jimbaran, Bali, once again asserts its commitment as an environmentally-conscious art collaboration center. Presenting an ocean-themed art exhibition curated by Gallery Aatelier, Vol 3: OCEAN officially opened on Friday, June 21, 2024. This marks the third collaboration between Aatelier and JHub Art Space, solidifying the close relationship between art and the environment.

Upon entering the exhibition space, visitors are greeted by a diverse array of artworks, ranging from the tactile textures of weaving to stunning underwater photography. Each piece offers a unique interpretation of the ocean, from abstract to more direct representations of marine life.

One of the most striking pieces is by Oka Astawa, a Balinese artist living in Tabanan. His work, created from plastic bottle caps collected from the beach, serves as a tangible symbol of the plastic pollution threatening our oceans.

Oka Astawa is not the only artist involved in this exhibition. Other participating artists include Akhirul Akbar, Erdiawan Golek, Giri Ananda, Gusti Kade, Krishna Aditya, Nyoman Suarta, Ni Wayan Pennawati, Radetyo ‘Itok’, Surya Subratha, Suardana Kacor, Wanti Amelia, Wilson Wirawan, photographer Giuseppe La Spada, and PADI Dive Center Bali Elite Scuba Tulamben.

Curated by Richard Tambalo, an experienced art curator with over a decade of experience managing studios, galleries, and museums, this exhibition has become one of the most anticipated of the year.

In her opening remarks, Alvita Chen, Founder of Gallery Aatelier, expressed her gratitude for the support from JHub Art Space. “We hope this exhibition can raise awareness about the importance of sustainable ocean preservation and management. Art and the environment are closely connected, and through this creative approach, we aim to advocate for ocean conservation in a unique and heartfelt way,” said Alvita.

Putu Agung Prianta, Founder of JHub Art Space, added, “We are very excited to welcome this Maritime Art collection. Our hope is that this exhibition can raise awareness about the importance of keeping our oceans clean and preserved, a commitment that aligns with our appreciation for high-value art.”

Each artwork in this exhibition offers a unique perspective on the timeless allure and mystery of the ocean. It is an exhibition that not only delights the eyes but also touches the heart and mind to care more about the marine environment.

The Vol 3: OCEAN exhibition will run until July 21, 2024, and will be open from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM WITA every Monday to Saturday. Various engaging activities will accompany visitors at JHub Art Space, Jimbaran Hub, making each visit an unforgettable experience.

For those who wish to understand and feel the importance of the ocean through art, this exhibition is the perfect place. Come and see for yourself how art can be a bridge to raise awareness and drive action for ocean conservation.
