Jimbaran Hijau, an integrated area in Bali, is once again in the international spotlight. This time, the area, which is famous for its diverse arts, culture, and environment, is a meeting place for regional artists from Asia Pacific.
A total of 12 talented artists from 5 Asian countries, namely Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia and the Philippines, as well as 18 international intellectuals as Leaders-Mentors-Facilitators from Asia Pacific, met in Jimbaran Hijau.
The activity which took place on Monday (27/11/2023) was a special program that created space for inspiration and the exchange of ideas initiated by Chan + Hori Contemporary, a Contemporary Fine Arts Curatorial Consultant in Singapore and was held in collaboration with the Maybank Foundation.
This series of activities was spread over 6 days by visiting several places around Bali. In this series, visiting Jimbaran Hijau is included in one of the activity agendas in this program.
“Jimbaran Hijau is an area that has its own uniqueness, where a place can connect various creative activities and has a certain philosophy behind each area and its development which can inspire local and international creative actors,” said Khai Hori as Partner & Director of Chan + Hori Contemporary, Singapore.
Jimbaran Hijau does have a lot of potential to become an interesting art destination. This area has various facilities and art programs that can be an inspiration for artists.
In Jimbaran Hijau, artists can find various works of art from various genres, from fine art, music, dance, to performing arts. Apart from that, this area also has various creative spaces that can be used by artists to work.
“Jimbaran Hijau is not only a destination, but also has a vision, which is to create a destination, to become the latest art destination, together with local and international creative actors, focusing on a green lifestyle, authentic but still innovative, creative and inclusive,” said Putu Agung Prianta, as CEO of Jimbaran Hijau who is also one of the mentors in the workshop in this program.
This visit to Jimbaran Hijau is the beginning of opening doors and establishing relationships between artists, curators and international intellectuals. The aim is to strengthen a new arts ecosystem for Bali that contributes to protection and is always adaptive in cultural development, as well as caring for social dynamics.
“Cultural values with current developments are something important, to create a new social ethos, because it will create a sense of trust within us as a nation that has a high and noble cultural wealth,” added Agung.
The visit of Asia Pacific regional artists to Jimbaran Hijau is a positive step for the development of art in Bali. It is hoped that this visit will open up opportunities for Balinese artists to collaborate with artists from various countries and create works of art that are more innovative and relevant to current developments.
